Urban Forest Maintenance at Artane
Last Friday, 14th August, the Member First Credit Union team stepped away from our usual office routines and participated in an Urban Forest Maintenance Day at St David’s College in Artane. In partnership with Cloudforests, a fantastic organisation committed to creating 100 forests along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, we joined forces with our fellow CoolPartners, Securitas Ireland and Digicom, to give this vital green space some much-needed care.
The weather was on our side, with clear skies and a gentle breeze, making it the perfect day to get outdoors. Our main task was clearing the invasive grass that was crowding the young saplings planted earlier this year, allowing them the space they needed to grow strong and tall.
“It was amazing to see how tall the trees had grown over the past few months,” said Sheena Walton, Compliance Officer at Member First Credit Union, after observing the progress of the urban forest. She added, “We were all filled with pride, positivity, and a sense of accomplishment when we saw the end results.”
Despite the heat, our team remained enthusiastic and focused. To keep spirits high, we made sure plenty of refreshments were available because, just like the plants, we needed to stay hydrated, too!
Karen O’Connor, our Compliance Assistant, who’s been involved in a few of Cloudforests’ projects, shared her thoughts: “The work that Cloudforests is doing in local schools and communities is fantastic. I’ve taken part in both the initial planting of the trees, where students got involved, and now the maintenance of this urban forest. Both days were incredibly rewarding, and I’d jump at the chance to do it again.”
Our Member Engagement Manager, Rosanna Del Rio, reflected on the experience, noting, “I thoroughly enjoyed helping Cloudforests with the weeding at the urban forest. It was a great team bonding experience with my colleagues. It was tough working in the heat, but I look forward to helping out again soon.”
As an organisation, we found participating in this activity truly rewarding, as it allowed us to contribute to environmental causes and the betterment of our community. We’re pleased to have received the Cloudforests Maintenance Day 2024digital badge, which reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainability and positive community impact.
Did you know? This badge marks our fifth in an ever-expanding collection, and we couldn’t be prouder to see our efforts recognised in such a meaningful way. Curious to see all the badges we’ve collected so far? Take a look here.
Our experience at the Urban Forest Maintenance Day was more than just a community service project; it was a powerful reminder of the positive impact we can have when we come together as a team. We’re proud to be part of this ongoing journey with Cloudforests and are already looking forward to the next opportunity to get our hands dirty for a good cause.
