Is fearr Gaeilge bhriste, ná Béarla cliste. This means, “Broken Irish is better than clever English.” While it’s a great reminder that every bit of Irish is valuable, there’s no better time than now to learn and improve. As VIPMagazine.ie highlights, the Irish language has been around for over 2,000 years—long before English—and continues to be one of the most beautiful languages in the world.

The Irish Language: A Living Tradition

For those who think Irish is a dying language or spoken only in remote areas, they couldn’t be more mistaken. Gaeilge is making a strong comeback. A significant step forward is the use of Irish in Northern Ireland courts following the repeal of a centuries-old ban and in a more recent development, it was spoken for the first time during Prime Minister’s Questions in Westminster—the first such instance since 1901.

While learning international languages is important, nothing is more meaningful than staying connected to our roots, cherishing our own language, and passing it on to future generations.

A Chance to Experience the Magic of Gaeilge

To celebrate the Irish language and play our part in keeping it thriving, we’re excited to offer two primary or secondary students the opportunity to attend the Gaeltacht Summer Courses at Coláiste Naomh Eoin (An Ghaeltacht sa Bhaile) as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge, the biggest Irish language festival in Ireland and beyond.

This two-week course allows students to immerse themselves in an Irish-speaking environment, build confidence in their oral, aural, and written skills, and experience the language in an authentic setting. Additionally, it’s a chance to make friends, create memories, and fall in love with Irish all over again.

Sounds exciting, right?
